In this tutorial, we will learn to create a nose ring and add it to a person’s nose inside of a photograph. This tutorial is useful for learning how to create 3D objects from scratch and intergrating them with real life photos.

Step-By-Step:

1. Open in Photoshop the photograph of the person’s photo that is clearly displaying the nose.
2. Name the layer with the photograph “Nose”.

3. Create a new layer above the “Nose” layer and name this layer “Ring”.
4. Select the Eliptical Marquee tool and drag a circular selection below the nose area on the “Ring” layer.

5. Hold down the ALT key and draw a smaller circular selection inside the previous circular selection. This will give you the selection area for a nose ring.

6. Select the Paint tool and fill the selection with any color. It doesn’t matter what color you choose at this point.

7. Open the layer styles for the “Ring” layer.
8. Change the “Drop Shadow” properties to the following:

9. Change the “Inner Shadow” properties to the following:

10. Change the “Bevel and Emboss” properties to the following:

11. Change the “Color Overlay” properties to the following:

12. Click OK to accept layer style changes.
13. Create a new layer just below the “Ring” layer.
14. Select the “Ring” layer so it is the active layer.

15. Click CTRL + E to merge the “Ring” layer with the new layer below it. Now all the layer styles have been permanently applied.
16. Select the Eraser Tool. Zoom in on the nose ring and erase the section of the ring that is overlapping the nose.

17. When you have completed erasing the entire section, you should now have your added nose ring. You can do variations of the color, by applying a different color in step 11 for the “Color Overlay” properties.
18. Have fun with this technique of adding a nose ring!

I’ve decided to create a more realistic tutorial on how to apply a tattoo on human skin and make it look realistic. I’ve seen several tutorials on creating this same effect around the web yet it doesn’t look that realistic, the tattoo needs to look like it’s actually wrapping and embedded on the skin while keeping the quality and highlights of the tattoo.

Quick notes this tutorial works best with high quality images, also try to find a tattoo’s in which the skin matches your skin you will be working on, that will give the best results, here is a .psd of the sources for you guys to practice on. Lets begin!

>Download PSD file here<

Lets first look at this comparison I made below, the first image is the basic cut and paste technique with an overlay blend, no way you’re going to fool anyone with that. Now lets take a look at the second image, the second image uses cutting, feathering, blending, and sharpening techniques to give it the look that the tattoo is really embedded in the skin, so much so that you can see it literally pop out! Alright, lets begin.

1. Choosing our source images.

Here we need to find two images which we want to work with. It can be yourself, a friend, or someone you want to see how a tattoo would look on them. Then find a picture of the tattoo you want, it’s best to take a tattoo off a picture of someone who actually has a real tattoo, thus giving a realistic look because the tattoo has already been embedded in the skin for you. As an example I’ve chosen my two images as the the following.

2. Placing the tattoo source onto the main source picture.

Take the tattoo source and place it onto the main source (crocop) this will create a new layer. Now on the tattoo layer use the Free Transform option by pressing (CRT+T) now position the tattoo where you want it to be, and rescale and rotate it to fit the current angle.

3 Deleting unwanted areas to fit shape.

Now we need to get rid of that extra piece of junk from the tattoo image so it will perfectly take the shape of Crocop’s shoulders, first off we will want to make the tattoo layer invisible by clicking on the eye right next to the tattoo layer. Then select the polygonal lasso tool and follow the shoulder area like the image shown below. (I know you can use the magic wand tool to get rid of it but for me it’s a better practice to use the lasso tool.

After you have selected the perfect shape around his shoulders make sure your selection is still visible then click the tattoo layer and make it visible again, then press delete. Now you can see the tattoo is starting to take effect by taking the shape of his shoulder, were almost there!

4. Feathering tattoo layer.

This part is very easy and simple. select the magic wand tool (w) and while on the tattoo layer click an area outside the tattoo so that the whole area outside the tattoo is selected. Now go to select > modify > feather and enter a range from 8-10 (for smaller images a range from 3-6 is good) after the feather is set press delete twice, now you will notice the edges of the tattoo is now very soft on the edges making the tattoo ever more realistic on the body.

5. Darken overlay on tattoo.

Select the tattoo layer and on the layers option, drag down to Darken, now this makes the whole ink park of the tattoo appear while the rest of the color disappear to give the effect that’s it’s actually on his skin.

6. Touch up.

Well were basically finished, from this point you can just play around with it anyway you want. I adjusted the curve, lowered the saturation, sharpen the image, and matched the color. Here’s the final product. Hope you enjoy!

If you’re anything like me, some of the fondest memories you may have as a child are the times spent with building blocks. Those tiny locks of plastic or wood could be a fuselage on a jet airplane one day and a castle’s gateway the next – they were limitless. They allowed you to start from the ground up in creating anything your imagination allowed.

The process explained in this tutorial follows in the footsteps of the mighty building block, as it demonstrates how Photoshop lets you build complex images one piece at a time. While photomontage techniques are common these days, the montage process we’ll outline takes a different course. Instead of blending images to form a more abstract piece, we’ll start out with a tight idea first and then loosen things up as we go.

To achieve the look of our robotic angel, it will be necessary to handle and organise a large volume of layers, which may turn some people away. If you’re looking for a more time-sensitive demonstration, we encourage you to simplify the line drawing or skip the rendering of some of her bodily segments. Make no mistake, this tutorial will take quite awhile to do. But the end results and skill learned are worth it.

In this Photoshop tutorial I will be walking you through the making of an interesting art piece, “The Eye, the Key of the Soul.”

In this tutorial we will use the burn tool, dodge tool, brushes, layer modes and more to add an interesting effect to an otherwise regular stock photo.

Preface

Before we get started I would like you to know that this tutorial was written by Krinos, and the stock photo used is by xerolime, you can download it from here.

1.

Open up the stock photo you’ve chosen to be working with for this tutorial. Duplicate it once (just in case!) Find and get out the Burn Tool, change the range/mode for it to ‘midtones’ and set the opacity to something light-medium.

Using the burn tool now, pass in turn of the pupil of the eye and in turn of the eye. Now get out the Dodge Tool and set the mode to midtones again. Use the dodge tool to lighten up the pupil and also among where you used the burn tool to darken.

2.

Again using the dodge tool, make some ‘rays’ just outside of the iris, and lighten up any other areas you think may need it.

3.

Now use Lighting Effects (filter > render > lighting effects) to add an interesting lighting effect to the overall photo, you may want to mess around with the colors for the lighting effects filter. Try not to over-saturate the photo though on this step, if your lighting effects affect it too much, go to edit > fade lighting effects and put it at around 50%.

4.

Now it’s time to recolor the center of the eye. Do this by making a new layer (layer > new > layer) and brush a little bit inside of the eye with a soft brush, using the color of your choice (orange). After you’ve made your little bit of brushing inside of the eye, change the layer mode to Color and lower the opacity to around 50-60%.

5.

Using the dodge and burn tools again, add more light/darkness to the pupil to give it a stronger effect.

6.

To add more feeling to the photo, go to layer > new adjustment layer > gradient map and made a black & white gradient map. Change the layer mode for this layer to Luminosity and leave the opacity in tact. Repeat step 4 with the eye color part, you may want to use a lower opacity though, and a different color for the brush.

7.

A little more dodge & burn tool here, remember to mess with the ‘range’ and opacities for the brushes as well, get creative.

I also create another pupil-color layer, brushed inside of it it with a yellow-orange, changed the layer mode to Linear Dodge and lowered the fill to 10%.

8.

To finish off, apply a Selective Color adjustment layer (layer > new adjustment layer > selection color) and use the settings that you find look best. Again, in finishing, apply lighting effects again, but this time lower the opacity afterwards to around 35%.
