Ok, this is an easy tut with a nice outcome, FF fans are going to love it! .PSD file is available for free download, scroll down for it.

So… lets get started. Make a new canvas, 450*150 px. This is the typical signature size allowed in forums, but if you want to make is smaller or bigger, that is up to you.

Final Fantasy Midnight Rain tutorial written by Lorelei © www.loreleiweb.com

Fill it with the #1a2c6f , dark blue colour.

Now you would need a pic of some FF girl. We based our sig on this wallpaper: http://www.vetton.ru/fantasy/6561.html (go there and save it to your computer.

Take this picture, duplicate it as a new canvas and re-size, to 33% of its actual size to get a smaller version.

Paste the big version unto your signature canvas, and move it so that the face will be on the right side.

Set the opacity of the layer with the face to about 30% or a bit more, we dont want this image to be dominating.

Duplicate this layer.

While the upper layer is selected, go to Filter >> Blur >> Motion Blur and apply these settings… Remember that the duplicated layer is also set to 33% opacity, not more!

This is what you go so far…

Now take the smaller version of the girl’s image that you have and paste it into the body of the signature, this time put it in the left side of the canvas, as shown on the picture below:

Using the Eraser tool with a smooth edge, remove the sharp line that separates the layers. Always use smooth edges, to avoid having same sharp edge just elsewhere on the canvas.

Make a new layer, fill it with white.

Go to Filter >> Render >> Clouds (while you still have dark blue as a primarily colour and white as the secondary) and apply the clouds effect to the new layer.

Go to Image >> Adjustments >> Brightness / Contrast and apply these settings to your clouds, to give them a more dramatic and visible touch.

Set the clouds layer opacity to 35% – 40%, and this is what you will get…

Using the eraser tool with smooth edges, remove the clouds from the small figure, in order to make it stand out.

Now we need to make an edge, before we forget.
Make a new layer, select the pen tool (not the brush!) with 4px master diameter and draw a box all around the signature. Make sure your line is staight. If you are unable to do it properly, hold the “Shift” button on your keyboard to use the straight line.

Go to Layer >> Layer Styles >> Blending options and apply this gentle shadow to your border. It will give a bit more depth to the picture.

This is the outcome of the border settings…

Make a new layer, fill it with white.
Go to Filter >> Render >> Fibers and apply these fibbers settings…

Reduce the fibbers layer opacity as shown on the picture below.

Now take a nice picture of a rain, with droplets.. You can use this one we pulled from some free images stock.

Copy it to your clipboard and paste unto the signature canvas.
Set it’s opacity to “Multiply”…

Select the typing tool and type a word over the signature. You wrote Midnight Rain”, but this is very very personal. We used the font called “moonstar”, available free at dafont.com

After having typed your word, apply these settings to the text, in order to give it an extra dreamy and deep effect.

Reduce the text fill to 35%.

Now that we know, more or less, how our canvas looks and organized, select the layer with the small girl image and go to Filter >> Render >> Lightening Effect. Apply this light over her face. We used a light purple colour – #e1e5fe

That is it, you are done! This is your result.

Fantasy Art for beginners – mysterious moonlit night written by Lorelei © www.loreleiweb.com

Believe it or not, but from a few ordinary photos and some primitive brushes, we will make this:

OK, despite the rather impressive outcome, this is a very simple
tutorial, you wont need more than a few brushes and a few pictures.
Most of it is a mater of technique.

Start by creating a new canvas, 500*500 pixels, and fill it with dark blue colour, we used #060062.

Next, you need a beautiful, and preferably mysterious photo of a woman, this is what we started off with:

Copy the girl to your clipboard (Ctrl + C) and paste it (Ctrl + V) unto the blue canvas

Select the “Single Column Marquee tool” place the selection line on the
edges of the picture, Press Ctrl + T to draw a line, and repeat the
action from the other side as well. This is what this action will give
you…

Duplicate the woman’s picture, and set BOTH layers to “Luminosity”
blending option. This will turn both layers blue, as we have a blue
background.
While the upper (duplicated) layer is selected, apply the Gaussian blur on it.

Select the eraser tool with a soft edge, and go over the girl’s
silhouette, erasing the blurred layer from over the woman’s body. This
is how it will look, but work your way with the eraser over her skirt
as well.

After having finished to erase the blur over her body, this is what it will look like:

Select the blurred layer, and go to Filter >> Render >> Lightening Effects.
Apply this “omni” light spot over the blurred layer.

Now you got a nice, wrapped in fog moon, that creates a very mysterious
halo around the girl’s body. That’s because we used (before) the eraser
tool with the soft edge, while removing the blurred layer we were not
very accurate and deleted a bit of the area around the body as well.
Even if it’s just a few pixels, it is still great.

Now we need to add some landscape… Easier of all would be to use some
nice clouds photo and not to create clouds from a scrap. So take this
picture, pulled from MorgueFile.com

Copy it (Ctrl + C) and paste unto your fantasy canvas.
Apply the “Luminosity” blending style.
Using the eraser tool, remove remains of the clouds from the woman (if any) and the moon.

Create a new Layer.
Make sure your primal colour is white and your secondary colour (in colours palette) is same blue as the background.
Select the “Dune Grass” blush (comes default in Photoshop CS2) and
apply a lot of stamps (or just hold the mouse pressed and go over the
bottom of the canvas)
Ideally, it will look like this…

Now you would need starry brushes. We used some free star brushes downloaded from Deviantart.com
You can choose between..
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/15213768
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/31601676 or any other…

Once you have installed the star brushes and loaded then into your
Photoshop, make a new layer and apply a generous amount of stars over
the upper part of your canvas.
Remember to use pure white colour for the brushes. If you see that the
result is dull – go to Layer >> Layer Styles >> Blending
options and add default yellowish glow.

Go to the layers menu and select the layer with the clouds (remember it has to be on luminosity mode)
Select the Dune Grass brush again, and add a bit grass from both sides
of the woman, but make sure you dont apply them over her. The idea is
to create the illusion of her sitting IN the grass and not behind it.
Since here the blending mode is different (luminosity), the grass will
look more moonlit in front of her.

Go again to layers menu and select the first layer of the woman, which stayed intact so far…

Go to Filter >> Renders >> Lightening effects and apply a
light spot, similar to what we did with the blurred layer, only bigger

And this is how it looks now, now the girl is slightly lit from one side more than from another:

If you are happy with all the layers and see that no correction is
needed – good! Now you can flatten the layer by going to Layer >>
Flatten Image.
Now that the canvas is fully merged into one picture, go to Image >> Adjustments >> Hue Saturation.
Check the “colorize” box, and set these settings, for a flat blue
colour. IF you wish to give your canvas a different hue, its up to you,
just play with the settings here.

That’s it! We have a beautiful bewitching girl, sitting my the sea,
while the fool moon is wrapped in fog and slightly lightening the
grass, the sea’s horizon line and the lady’s side…

Start off by creating a new canvas, mine is 340×110, and fill it with a not so dark nor bright color, a bit grayish. Im using this color: “#777272”. Take the BURN tool and brush abit on the sides. It’ll look like this:

Now place your render in the canvas, I’m using the one of Prince of Persia provided at the bottom of this page.
Take out the smudge tool and use these settings:

Copy your render a couple of times and smudge using those settings. Don’t oversmudge it, the other parts will be covered later. Repeat this step untill the whole background is covered, you can move your copies of the render to the sides if you don’t reach all the background it by only doing this. Set all layers to color dodge. My result:

Doesn’t look really sexy huh :S, well… move a unedited copy of your render to the top, leave it like it is.
Now move another copy of your render to the top and smudge only al little bit. Just try to get one “splash”, set to pinlight, my result:

Now add an Gradient map, go to layer -> adjustments layer -> Gradient Map. Click on the gradient and choose a black to white gradient.
Now make a new layer and fill it with black, set it to softlight, now take out a softbrush at 100% opacity and brush where the render was, try to make a cool lighting effect. Result:

Now go create a new layer and go to image -> apply image. Then go to filter -> blur Gaussian blur and set it to 1,0 pixels, now grab an eraser and erase the parts that you don’t want to be blurry. Result:

Now, go to layer -> new adjustments layer -> photofilter, use this setting:

Now add another photofilter:

Now go to layer -> new adjustments layer -> gradient map and use this:

Set it to softlight at opacity of 30%.

It has a warm feeling now

Now apply image again (image -> apply image) and go to filter -> distort -> ocean ripple. Set it to overlay at around 20% and Ctrl + click the thumbnail of the backup of your render. You’ll get a selection of your render. Press delete to delete it out of the rippled area. Result:

No shocking changes but imo it gave a little more depth.

Well J now you’re pretty much done with it J I hope you enjoyed reading this tutorial J
Final RESULT:
